South Lanarkshire Councillors met this week to agree perimeter boundaries on 16 new nature reserves.
The planning committee expressed their appreciation that the new nature reserves throughout Lanarkshire are going ahead and were pleased to conclude each area.
For the Blantyre area, new reserves are confirmed for Backmuir Woods, Greenhall Milheugh & Barnhill,
Plans to establish additional Local Nature Reserves had been previously approved by councillors, however precise boundaries were still to be established. Community groups were involved in draft management plans and the council is actively engaged with local groups.
The other reserves are confirmed near Blantyreferme as Bothwell and Uddingston; Cadzow Glen; Fernbrae Meadows; Hamilton Low Parks; Holmhills Wood Community Park; James Hamilton Heritage Park; Jock’s Burn; Milton; Morgan Glen; Mossneuk;, Neilsland and Earnock; Stonehouse Park; Udston and Glenlee Woods; and Westburn.
