2.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Lochaber

A 2.9-magnitude earthquake in a remote area of Lochaber has been felt and heard across parts of western Scotland.

The epicentre was located near Kinloch, approximately 30km (19 miles) northwest of Oban. The British Geological Survey (BGS) recorded the tremor shortly before 20:45 on Sunday evening.

The quake was felt in Strontian, the Isle of Mull, Oban, and nearby villages, though it was not strong enough to cause any damage.

Reports of the tremor were submitted to the BGS, primarily from people within a 40km (25-mile) radius of the epicentre. One person described the experience, saying, “The ground and the wall I was leaning against shook for about three seconds.”
