Heavy Rain Batters Scotland

Relentless downpours are hitting Scotland this weekend with much of the country covered in rain warnings and causing widespread havoc.

The M9 is closed leading to Stirling, and communities on the west coast of Scotland, including Oban completely cut off with roads throughout Argyll & Bute particularly flooded and many impassable. Several landslides on the rest and Be Thankful also cutting off usual alternative routes.

Closer to home, Network Rail Scotland warned of a month’s worth of rain falling today alone, cancelling trains and affecting local services.

Backroads to East Kilbride and Strathaven are badly affected, some cut off in locations like Dalton and at Newhousemill Road. Other more significant roads, such as A724 coming from Cambuslang into Blantyre, completely closed off due to floods (pictured).

The Rivers Calder and Clyde are swollen , flowing at spate making it dangerous to walk nearby. Pets should be kept on leads near watercourses if you’re brave enough to be out walking today.

The rain has since eased up a little. Meantime, Southern Britain has a stark contrast with blue skies and enjoying an Indian Summer of up to 24 degrees today in London. Typical! Stay safe folks. This is a day NOT for travelling and to be indoors.
