Blantyre Halls under threat of closure

Two Blantyre halls are amongst a list of 50 facilities in South Lanarkshire under threat of closure or change of use.

The High Blantyre Hall at Cemetery Road and Larkfield Hall at the corner of Broompark Road and Stonefield Road appear on a South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture report putting such facilities under review.

These include libraries in Bothwell, Burnbank, Halfway, Hillhouse and Lesmahagow and golf courses at Biggar, Langlands and Strathclyde Park. The Jock Stein Centre in Hillhouse, also on the list.

Michael McGlynn, executive director for community and enterprise resources, said:“It will be for the CPWG to consider how it wishes to proceed with this information, and if any venues might be better utilised in other ways. Any recommendations that emerge from the CPWG would then be presented to the executive committee/council and the SLLC board for consideration.”

Whilst its not looking good for High Blantyre Hall, the Larkfield Neighbourhood Hall is on an amber list, at least meaning this is being subjected to a sustainability review to decide its future.
