Today, Saturday 27th May, we had the pleasure of dropping by the premises of the “Western Desert Recce Group” at High Blantyre.
The volunteer, hobby group ran by retired veterans are involved in renovating WW1 and WW2 vehicles, for the purposes of educating and showing the community. It keeps everybody active, promotes wellbeing and is an interesting pasttime for all involved.
You may recall we reported recently that the group had acquired a replica WW1 tank made of wood? The life size tank had been made from a real WW1 blueprint in terms of scale. Tanks like these, made of wood were constructed in war years and taken through towns to help promote the funding for the manufacture of real tanks.
The WDRG have embarked on renovating this one, which is now in their possession. They were delighted today to receive £100 donation from Blantyre Telegraph, courtesy of our Supporters Group.
This donation will buy much needed materials to help reconstruct the tank and was gratefully received today on behalf of the WDR group by Gary Wallace (pictured).
Thanks again to all Blantyre Telegraph Supporters for their continued subscription and for making worthwhile causes like this and others possible each month.
