Flu cases in Scotland have jumped a massive 45% in the last week, according to Public Health Scotland.
Hospitals have seen a spike in the number of admissions due to a new strain of flu, and schools throughout Scotland have reported a noticeable rise in pupil absences. The trend is earlier and more noticeable than other winters. NHS Lanarkshire advises, “Healthcare services are experiencing high levels of demand due to flu and other respiratory illnesses”.
The health board has been telling patients to stay at home to treat themselves, avoid workplaces where possible and to avoid A&E when suffering mild or moderate flu symptoms.
