Residents in Larkhall have been coming to terms that the last remaining bank in their town is to close in January 2026.
Like Blantyre and so many other surrounding towns, it’s now the turn of Larkhall to lose face to face banking as the Bank of Scotland closes High Street branches in favour of shifting business to digital.
The decision by banking bosses has seen protests occur in Larkhall Main Street as residents with home made signs took to the street to complain. There are fears for what it will mean particularly for the elderly, those unable to travel and for local businesses.
The branch is one of 13 Bank of Scotland branches across the country which will close in 2026, along with the Bellshill branch.
Customers now face being directed to branches at Hamilton and Motherwell or to banking hubs in Carluke and Cambuslang.
