How to See Comet 3I/ATLAS This December: Tips for Stargazers

An extraordinary visitor from beyond our solar system is set to make a fleeting appearance this December. Comet 3I/ATLAS, an interstellar object travelling at immense speed, reaches its closest approach to Earth on 19th December 2025, offering skywatchers a rare cosmic moment.

Although it won’t be visible to the naked eye, the comet is best viewed in the pre-dawn hours, low in the eastern sky, close to Regulus — the bright heart of the Leo constellation. A small telescope or good binoculars will give observers the best chance of spotting this faint but historic traveller as it sweeps through our neighbourhood before continuing its journey back into deep space.

Interstellar comets are exceptionally rare, making this a must-watch event for astronomy enthusiasts. Clear skies and early alarms will be key — but the reward is witnessing material formed around another star system, passing briefly by our own.

Would you be setting your alarm to catch a glimpse of this once-in-a-lifetime visitor? 🌌
