Asda Hamilton Supports Local Community Group

Colleagues at Asda Hamilton have thrown their support behind a local community group with much-needed funding from the Asda Foundation.

Through Asda’s charity, the Asda Foundation, Gillian Summers, Community Champion at Asda Hamilton, secured a £970 grant for the Hamilton Information Project for Youth (HIPY) – a local charity that supports young people in the community, providing information and advice as well as offering free period products and essential toiletries.

Over the past year, HIPY was a key participant in Challenge Poverty Week, hosting a well-received “Period Positive” event aimed at tackling the high cost of essential sanitary products, and supporting those in need.

More recently, HIPY organised an International Women’s Day gala, bringing the community together in celebration and reflection. Gillian, along with Asda Blantyre Community Champion, Mary Sutherland, attended the event with a Tickled Pink stall.

Gillian Summers, Community Champion, Asda Hamilton said:

I’m thrilled that, as part of my role as a Community Champion, I get to support organisations like this one. HIPY continues to be a significant asset to the community. Under the leadership of Gillian McCahon, the organisation provides ongoing support to young people and residents alike, demonstrating dedication, compassion, and a strong commitment to making a difference.”

Gillian McCahon, Project Co-ordinator, Hamilton Information Project for Youth (HIPY) said:

“HIPY is delighted to receive funding from the Asda Foundation as it will help deliver a monthly information and wellbeing drop-in service in Hamilton town centre for young people and their families. Thanks to the Asda Foundation grant, we can tackle hygiene poverty by providing free toiletries to those in need, as well as specialist information, advice, and support from a wide range of community partners. The drop-in service will also offer a welcoming connection space that we hope will turn into a vibrant community hub. Thank you to Asda for bringing this vital service to our community and to Gillian Summers, our local Asda Community Champion, for her continued support”
