Blantyre’s oldest pub, The Hoolets at Barnhill continues its surge of brand new customers, thank to the efforts of owner Mick Flynn and his dedicated team of friends and colleagues, offering their services. Even just this weekend, the old smoking shelter has been demolished and the beer garden buildings painted, looking good as new.
Witnessing the transformation of the pub and especially the large and spacious beer garden has been a joy to behold this last year. Mick has added many new wooden tables and chairs, cut back all the trees and put up wooden fencing and pot plants. The beer garden is surprisingly open and gets sunlight for much of the day. Lights in the trees and space set aside for an outdoor entertainment stage, all add to the new, vibrant and exciting ambience Mick has created.
Indoors, live entertainment is frequent and a jumping weekend crowd of mixed age, shows how popular this quaint pub has become. Attached are some of the photos sent in by David Stuart, taken earlier today.
