Thank you to all the individuals and businesses who donated a raffle prize. With thanks to Gail Gillon, Ivan Veverka, Paula Veverka, Glen Travel, Struthan Cottages, Blantyre Project, Morrison Construction, Monica Lennon, Ged Killen, Archie Simm and Billy Gallacher. And of course to everybody else who added prizes to the table upon arrival. We had an astonishing luxury raffle, notably with an Amazon Alexa, a £550 holiday won by the Billy King and a new Apple Ipad worth around £400!

It’s with sincere thanks to Carrigans staff for their assistance especially those working behind the scenes to prepare the incredible buffet. We catered for everybody attending, and even with people having seconds, it was just perfect!

We managed to raise a truly amazing amount of money! £1,358.05 in fact!! Smashing the target for £1,000 for the Blantyre Summer Gala Day, with £358.05 to be donated to the Beatson! This includes kind donations received from online readers whilst the event was on. A remarkable achievement made possible by the generosity of the community as a whole! AMAZING! Blantyre Community Committee were given their £1,000 this morning and a cheque is ready to be sent off to the Beatson.

There are SO many people to thank. Thank you to GLEN TRAVEL as overall sponsor. Their generosity was sincerely appreciated.

Also to LANARKSHIRE CREDIT UNION, DANCE CENTRAL, INKED ENTERTAINMENT, DE VIRTUTE NUNC, & PAULA VEVERKA PHOTOGRAPHY as primary table sponsors. Blantyre Project, Encore Star Academy, Ingrained With Love, Optical Express, Phelps, Holley and Parker. A huge thanks to GAIL GILLON for supplying the beautiful balloons, to SOUP CAMPBELL as our brilliant DJ and to JULIE MORRIS HIGHLAND DANCERS, who were excellent!

CARRIGANS themselves MUST be mentioned for making the venue look so stunning providing candelabra and seat covers for such a professional look. People were simply awestruck coming into the room, with gasps of ‘wow!”

Thank you to BESPOKE EVENT SERVICES for putting on the complimentary drinks. A nice touch.

Thank you to the CELEBRITIES who recorded amazing short videos bringing showbiz directly to the room. John Challis (Boycie), Dean Cain, Simon Gregson (Steve from Corrie), Chris Casgoyne (Peter Barlow from Corrie), Linda Lusardi, Christoper Biggins, Tim Oliver, Sue Cleaver (Eileen from Corrie), Pop sensation Chesney Hawkes and Shaun Williamson (Barry from Eastenders).

I personally would like to say thanks to MICHAEL MCGLYNN for taking up position at the door at the start to guide people to seats. Thank you to local Councillors MO RAZZAQ and BERT THOMSON and to MONICA LENNON MSP, GED KILLEN MP and MARGARET FERRIER prospective MEP who all attended in official capacity, a chance to see further great work in the community.

Sincere thanks to FLOWERS TO GO for supplying 5 beautifully perfect bouquets for the winners.

Thank you sincerely to the very talented KAREN M SCOTT, our amazing photographer whose photos will appear here soon.

Finally, a thank you to ARLENE GREEN and LOUISE PLUMMER for giving up their interval and going round and selling so many raffle tickets. You guys were absolute stars!

The evening was a TREMENDOUS success! All 170 people look to have enjoyed themselves thoroughly, especially the dancing after 10pm! Social media is awash with Oscars photos today. It went without any hitch or hiccup and we truly did have a massive celebration of everything good about Blantyre.

I cannot commit to Oscars 2020 just yet due to work commitments and proposals to further develop and establish the new Blantyre Community Lottery, a community project aimed to get off the ground by Spring 2020. However, I can say this. It’s not the end of Blantyre Oscars. It WILL be back in the future.

For now though, I’m having a rest and look forward to gaining my evening spare time back. I had a great time and hope you all did too! VERY WELL DONE BLANTYRE! JUST PERFECT!!
