Bridge Incident was hoax call

We’ve now obtained further information in relation to last night’s police attendance at Bothwell Bridge. Police have now confirmed that the incident, which involved so many emergency services was the result of a “malicious hoax call”.

Emergency services had received an anonymous call which claimed a person fell over the bridge at Bothwell, into the River Clyde. Social media was awash with rumours of a fire, of a vehicle going through railings or worse, of a person jumping into the river, all of which thankfully proved untrue.

Just before 9pm last night, Monday 06 May 2019 a heavy police presence arrived at the bridge including ambulance, lifeboat, helicopter and police.

The services searched the water for over an hour to trace the individual. We can only imagine what low character a person must have to be capable of unnecessarily placing emergency services on such high alert.
