Official Opening of UWS

The University of West of Scotland (Lanarkshire campus) was officially opened this morning, Monday 24th June 2019.

Although the doors have been open to students and staff for some time, the official unveiling was performed this morning by Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, who visited the campus at Hamilton Technology Park, High Blantyre.

Nicola was warmly welcomed as she attended the special unveiling ceremony. Also there were students, staff and guests, including UWS’ Chancellor, the Rt Hon Dame Elish Angiolini, and UWS Principal Professor Craig Mahoney.

Before 10.30am, the First Minister declared the state-of-the-art, award winning Campus officially open. She said: “With top-class teaching spaces and state-of-the-art labs hosted in buildings that are entirely powered by renewables the new UWS Lanarkshire Campus is a fantastic addition to Scotland’s higher education sector.”

Officials were given a guided tour of the premises.

There’s no doubt that with quality, higher education right on our doorsteps many generations of local people are going to benefit.
