Blantyre was swamped by bikers this lunchtime as the “Ride for Reform” event got underway. Bikers were invited to come along to an organised memorial event today, Sunday 18th August 2019 to remember Allan Nicholson, who sadly died on the EK Expressway last year.
Hundreds of bikers met in the B&M Carpark just after midday, setting off before 1pm to complete the trip Allan was making, but never got to finish. There was also a petition to reform the law, primarily to insist those who are suspected of having caused a death on the roads are remanded in custody to prevent this happening again.
Mr Nicholson died after his motorbike collided with a car on the East Kilbride Expressway. He was thrown from his bike and pronounced dead at the scene at November 10.
Over 900 Blantyre Telegraph readers took part in our campaign in early 2019 for improvements to be made to Blantyre sliproads to help avoid tragedies like this happening again.
The bike ride is a fitting tribute to remember Allan.
