Meadow Making in Blantyre

Butterfly Conservation Scotland have been given permission by the council to create a new wildflower meadow in Hamilton’s Bothwell Road Park and in Blantyre’s McAnulty Park to support local butterfly populations.

The event takes place today between 10am and 2pm with many volunteers signed up to assist. Registration was necessary in advance but if you turn up and ask for Anthony, we’re sure they’ll be glad of some help.

The event is suitable for all, but children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Even if you can only make it for an hour or two, you are still welcome to come along to help out.

On this first event, they will be raking back some of the grass and sowing seeds of a wildflower called ‘Yellow Rattle’. In future events they’ll be planting wildflower plug plants and sowing more seeds, and in the summer monitoring to see what butterflies are there.
