Contractors arrived this week at the former Apollo Bar in High Blantyre.
Demolition and Fit out contractors arrived on Saturday 30th November at the old derelict premises on Main Street, next to the Masonic Lodge. That side of the building has been empty for many years and had recently been bought with planning permission sought to turn it into flats and shops.
However, we have recently learned that new owners intend on renovating the building now as rented office space, rather than shops. A flurry of activity took place on the first day with several workmen carefully demolishing existing internal partitions.
The building has seen better days, with subsidence affecting the facades. It requires extensive renovation. Originally a concert hall built in the 1880s, it has through the years been an Indian Restaurant too, but perhaps was best known as the Apollo Bar.
