The face of High Blantyre may be about to change with new shops and facilities planned! Planning application has now been submitted to create a brand new petrol station, shop and coffee drive through in High Blantyre.
The site is currently vacant to the east of Redburn Farm at Hamilton Technology Park, the entrance proposed from East Avenue (across from the tip), running alongside Redburn Farm.
The proposals would see the creation of a new petrol station with associated retail shop and sandwich shop, along with 27 parking spaces. Alongside this, a brand new drivethrough for a major coffee business is also sought. With Costa Coffee already confirmed elsewhere in Blantyre, sources suggest and indeed more importantly, the affiliations of the planning applicants, lends towards the possibility of a Starbucks drive through with Spar shop. (TBC).
The plans would no doubt create local jobs and of course make use of the derelict land which has not been used since the coal mine was cleared in the 1950s.
We’ll be keeping an eye on this story and will update further once a decision has been made.
