Blantyre’s New Play Park

With the museum renovation ongoing, you may be interested to know the David Livingstone Trust is also developing their grounds and Parkland, making it more accessible and interactive for our communities.

An exciting plan is well underway for the design, fundraising and construction of an Imaginative Play Park, deserving of Blantyre’s children based on a theme around Livingstone’s African expeditions. The Exploration and Imaginative Play Park will be fun and a wonderful addition to Blantyre amenities.

The upgrade of this free, privately owned park has been on the minds of Blantyre people for many years, featuring highly in the recent Blantyre Community Action plan. Thanks to amazing donations and grants to the Trust, some £55,000 has already been raised from the £115,000 overall cost and fundraising continues.

This week we launched our small part in this aim, setting ourselves a goal of £3,000 to be handed over to The Trust at Easter. Incredibly 15% of our target has been reached already with over £450 raised by kind readers in the first 72 hours! In the background, several emails and ideas have come in from businesses with exciting ideas to help further.

This new park is within reach, but just needs a little fundraising push….

Investing in our community matters.

Investing in our young people matters. The David Livingstone play park in Blantyre has always been a firm family favourite and popular spot, but is LONG overdue a major update.

Such fundraising will also enable health and wellbeing activities, help foster community relations and support the Trust’s charitable aims of providing a free public park. The David Livingstone Birthplace re-opens in Summer 2020.

Your support is greatly appreciated.
