The government, via all UK mobile phone networks are texting their customers with their official link to the ‘stay at home’ advice announced last night by the Prime Minister.
A single text message will arrive to your mobile phone over the next day or two and will look exactly like this. Some people may have it already. The link is valid and takes you to the official government website where lots more useful information is available.
Other countries have used mass text messages to send out new guidance to citizens and provide information about their handling of the coronavirus outbreak.
The UK government does not have any similar facility in place. Instead, it asked mobile operators to send out the single mass text, meaning that texts could arrive on a staggered basis, as and when the different operators send out the messages.
Note: This should not be confused with scam texts which are doing the rounds. You will NEVER be offered a refund/grant/sum of money by any government authority via text message, nor asked for personal details via text.
