Remembering Janet (Jenny) Coates McBain

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Blantyre woman, Janet (Jenny) Coates McBain who slipped away on Wednesday 8th April 2020 at the age of 83.

Janet Coates McBain was born in Knightswood Terrace, in the Village, Blantyre in 1936. Known to friends and family as Jenny, she was part of a large family with a strong Blantyre heritage. Her grandfather worked the toll bridge across the River Clyde to Bothwell and remarkably waved David Livingstone off to Africa.

She survived her devoted husband of more than 50 years, Bert (Robert) Rae. Jenny is mourned and will be greatly missed by her loving children George, Douglas and Mitchell, daughters in law, Bisola and Lyne and her 6 grandchildren Robert, Mitchell, Catherine, Jamie, Ewan and Sam.

Jenny was a fighter to the end, was well known, respected and a much loved Blantyre character.

Her son added, “She was one of last of her generation who spent their childhoods during the war. Mum leaves behind a wonderful legacy and fond memories surrounded by love.”

Our sympathies go out to all her family and friends at this sad and difficult time. Rest in Peace Jenny.
