Well known chef, Albert Roux, OBE and Legion d’Honneur founder has passed away at the age of 85. Albert, together with his brother, the late Michel Roux, were a formidable partnership, transforming the British restaurant scene in the late 1960s.
Opening Britain’s first three starred Michelin restaurant in 1967, Le Gavroche, from where he went on to train and inspire a generation of today’s top chefs to reach the very peak of his beloved French culinary art.
In recent years, Albert had a strong association with Crossbasket Castle in High Blantyre, pictured there in 2015.
Over the years, Albert has not only built a chef dynasty, he was also an award winning restaurateur, hotelier, retailer and wholesaler.
Crossbasket Castle spokesperson commented, “He will be sorely missed by many particularly within the ICMI family. A great mentor, friend and personality within a country he admired for not only its produce but also its people. To our guests, he was the creator of memorable dining experiences leaving behind a great legacy upon the UK Culinary scene.
His spirit and work/dynasty continues through his family with Michel Roux Junior at the helm.Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family and close friends.”
