Pots and Pans at the ready! ‘Clap for Carers’ looks set to return tonight, Thursday 7th January 2021 at 8pm….but under a new name and amidst some controversy !
Annemarie Plas, who came up with the weekly Thursday ritual that ran for 10 weeks during the first lockdown, tweeted that the tradition would be returning as ‘Clap for Heroes’, recognising not just health workers, but indeed, everybody who has been volunteering during lockdowns.
This is not for just the NHS, but for everybody who is doing their bit during lockdown.
Annmarie, who has received National attention for the proposal added, ““I hope it can lift the spirit, of all of us. Carers teacher, homeschooling parents, those who shield and ALL who is pushing through this difficult time! Please join & share! #clapforheroes.”
However, things have not gone smoothly for Annemarie today , who has since received abuse online when people suggested it was being done for political gain.
She continued, “Since announcing the return of the applause yesterday, I have been targeted with personal abuse and threats against myself and my family by a hateful few on social media,”
However, she said that the applause is not cancelled.
Have your say. Will YOU be clapping this lockdown?
