The brand new Scottish Child Benefit Payment system launches today providing a much needed financial boost for many families.
The £10/week/child payment, the first of its kind in the UK, is in addition to current benefits and is aimed at further tackling child poverty in Scotland.
The cash will be given out a monthly basis beginning later this month once eligibility has been assessed.
Payments will be backdated from the day the application is sent, meaning eligible families who fail to apply by today, 15th February would miss out on some of their entitlement.
Parents and carers who receive other welfare support are able to apply for the payment for each child under the age of six. Eligibility criteria applies. The total number of eligible families is estimated to be about 138,000
