First Lady of Malawi visits Blantyre

As you’ll probably be aware by now, there are a lot of foreign delegates in Central Scotland at the moment.

This afternoon, the David Livingstone Birthplace was closed with the cafe hosting a private function when the First Lady of Malawi visited Blantyre.

Her Excellency Monica Chakwera, the First Lady of the Republic of Malawi was the special guest and gave the main address, outlining her priorities and vision for the future. Her speech followed some brief words from David Hope-Jones, Scotland Malawi Partnership, setting the context of the bilateral relationship and there were other addresses by members of the Trust.

David Livingstone developed relationships with many communities in Sub-Saharan Africa, including Malawi. This relationship continues today, between Malawi and Scotland. Today, more than 94,000 Scots and 198,000 Malawians are actively involved in community-led partnerships between our two nations.

We hope Mrs Chakwera enjoyed her visit.
