Calderside Academy’s BIG climb

The young people of Blantyre’s Calderside Academy are resting after an arduous adventure last week, climbing Tinto Hill. The pupils were undertaking the climb to raise money for charity.

On Wednesday, 25th May, 180 intrepid pupils and 20 staff made the climb up Tinto Hill I order to raise money for the fantastic St Andrew’s Hospice. The weather conditions were not favourable to say the least. Pupils and staff battled against high winds and pelting rain in an effort to get to the top and ensure much needed funds for the hospice. Unfortunately, the weather was so bad that the organisers decided that the last small bit of the climb was too treacherous to be attempted, given the incredibly high winds. Both pupils and staff made a valiant effort in such trying conditions.

£1,360 has already been raised for charity. A spokesperson for St Andrew’s Hospice added, “Brilliant effort everyone! Thank you so much for braving the elements” Well done to everybody involved!
