Blantyre Market Update

Discussions and arrangements around the formation of a new “Blantyre Outdoor Market” are progressing, with negotiations and enquiries going on in the background.

Our Supporters Group exclusively were told of the news about the proposed market back in August this year, with an announcement also recently revealed to the community council at their previous meeting.

A further update here. With information now obtained from South Lanarkshire Council about a proposed licence, the summer food and crafts market, likely to be held in Blantyre between April and September, twice a month, takes another step closer to reality. However, it is still far from being a certainty.

Many other logistics still have to be finalised including whether it is a private endeavour or non profit. Other important decisions agreeing the venue, compliance, insuring the event and of course attracting interested traders are in early stages. In early 2023, a further update will be published here, perhaps then looking to also form a small committee or finding volunteers. Enquiries about trading will not be replied to until official announcements are made nearer the time.

Meantime, a branded Facebook page has been set up for people to follow regular progress which is available here

Have your say. Would YOU welcome the return of a regular market in Blantyre?
