Keen stargazers were treated to a great spectacle last night as the Northern Lights were visible with the naked eye.
Clear skies and a red Aurorawatch alert provided the perfect opportunity to spot the colourful phenomenon in the Lanarkshire skies.
Some people reported seeing red and orange dancing lights, others saw green lights to the north. For the best chance of catching a glimpse, it’s best to travel to an area without any light pollution. They’re best seen in a completely dark sky, so trying to see them in a city with lots of light may not always be possible.
The beautiful waves of light are caused by electrically charged particles from space zooming into the Earth’s atmosphere at incredibly high speeds.
