Police Scotland have now confirmed that a 51-year-old man passed away today, after being rushed to Hairmyres Hospital after he took suddenly ill while driving near the Raith interchange.
As traffic built up at rush hour this morning, emergency services raced to the scene near the M74 just after 7.50am and the driver was taken to Hospital.
A spokesman for Police Scotland told us: “We were made aware of a crash involving a single vehicle after a driver apparently took unwell at the Raith Interchange around 7.50am on Wednesday, 7 December. The 51-year-old man was taken to Hairmyres Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.”
“His next of kin has been made aware and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Our sympathies go out to this man’s family and friends at this difficult time.
