The Green Comet

Skies are clearing tonight which makes excellent conditions to view “The Green Comet”.

Streaking over the Earth for the first time in 50,000 years this once in a lifetime opportunity can be seen with the naked eye. If you look north eastwards in the sky (that’s towards Strathclyde Park if you’re in Blantyre), it should steadily increase in brightness and may be best seen with binoculars.

The green colour is result of UV radiation lighting up the comet’s gasses. Settled conditions offer a good chance to see it. It isn’t like a shooting star whizzing by. Due to its distance from the earth, this will appear very slow moving despite its high speeds. Any photos?
