Royal Visit to Blantyre

HRH The Princess Royal (Princess Anne) will visit Blantyre this week.

On the 9th February 2023, the David Livingstone Birthplace museum will welcome HRH The Princess Royal to formally reopen the museum. Along with other members of the community, we’ve been invited along as guests and subject to work commitments, shall be providing coverage here at Blantyre Telegraph of the official event.

As Patron of the Scottish Malawi Partnership, The Princess Royal may view the David Livingstone exhibition with special interest. HRH The Royal Princess will be invited to plant a tree as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy, a celebration and living legacy of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. The museum has been awarded 105 saplings in total by The Queen’s Green Canopy.

The Princess Royal’s late Grandmother, the Queen Mother, was Patron to the museum, having opened the museum officially for its first time back in 1929 (as the Duchess of York), and visiting again in the 1970s.

After their winter break, the museum reopens on 11th February for their 2023 season! Tickets can be purchased from www.david-livingstone-birthplace.org
