Fundraising for Blantyre good causes over the last couple of months continues to go brilliantly, with thanks to our Supporters Group subscriptions. Added to our overall fundraising total to date, it means Blantyre Telegraph (and its readers) have now raised a whopping £49,592 to 284 local good causes since the page started in 2011!
Fundraising totals are now updated to end May 23, showing how we’ve spent Blantyre Telegraph Supporter’s subscription monies. Once again it’s been fantastic to see many good causes benefit from the support of local people. Such donations to the community include, but not limited to:
£70 to replace the broken black chains in High Blantyre Cemetery.
£100 to little Sophie, a local lass who unexpectedly had a stroke (now much better!)
£50 Treats for local lassie Kristie Taylor after she raised money for Little Princess Trust
£50 treat for Erin Brown, local lassie as special birthday boost
£100 to WDRC for buying plywood to help renovate their wooden tank
£200 to High Blantyre Primary for their P7 leavers party
£30 to local lassie Amy Williamson to help start up her own wee business.
£60 Gifts to local nursery for outdoor play equipment
As well as these, we’ve also given away £100 cinema tickets to local children as £100 rewards for bravery and effort, given away £110 books to care homes, provided raffle prizes worth £115 for loads of events and venues within the Blantyre community and paid £80 towards various elderly residents to have discounted meals in local cafes.
As always, not one penny is retained by us! All awards were notified at the time on our Supporters Group page. Our website has been updated with donation and award records, in the interests of full transparency here. https://theblantyretelegraph.com/raised/
It’s been great to see how these donations have made a wee difference to local lives, putting a wee smile on faces here and there. We could donate SO much more if others joined our Supporters Group. Without a newspaper or magazine anymore, we’re reliant heavily on monthly subscriptions to our Facebook Supporters Group in order to be able to continue worthwhile donations like these.
Can we smash through £50,000 this summer?

Amazing achievement Paul! More than double the amount in just 4 years. Thanks for all you do for Blantyre and it’s folks.
Thanks Archie. A few years of the various Oscars events helped boost fundraising. Maybe I’ll think about that event again in time. The Covid pandemic stopped so many events and groups in Blantyre.
