You may have heard that another Bothwell business has been targeted by deliberate arson attacks. Plagued by this issue in recent years, the normally quiet Lanarkshire town has received unwanted attention as crime in the area rises sharply, apparently fuelled by serious and deliberate attempts to ruin local, hard working businesses.
The latest blaze is the second time the popular, long established Da Luciano’s restaurant has been targeted, the building almost entirely destroyed by fire on Monday.
Aerial images shared with us by local man Iain Douglas show the extent of the damage with the interior structure and roof completely collapsed.
Police confirmed the latest fire is being treated as ‘wilful’ and with a history of other venues in Bothwell being targeted in recent times, said inquiries were continuing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.25am on Monday, 28 August, 2023, police were called to the Silverwells Crescent area of Bothwell, following a report of a fire at a premises. There were no reported injuries and the fire is being treated as wilful.”
