Now here’s a sorry sight! The high winds of the last 24 hours have taken a toll on High Blantyre’s festive celebrations, as the town’s Christmas tree toppled.
However, unfortunately, the damage is extensive with the tree trunk itself snapping in the stormy winds, meaning the tall Christmas tree is now lying on its side, the lights not working.
It makes a sorry picture for passers by and although the damage has been reported to the council today, with only 10 days left of the year, there’s no guarantee it will be put back up. More so when you consider the current cuts South Lanarkshire Council have imposed on the area this year.
We hope when the council workers inspect the damage they can find a safe way to salvage the tree. We were only commenting 2 weeks ago what an impressive tree this was this year.
