Council’s Transport Cuts

You may have read about the Council’s proposal to save money by cutting the school bus transport by raising the walking to school limit from 2 miles to 3.

The Council have not yet provided the correct walking route, but have issued a generic route which is 2.97 miles and involves very busy roads and the underpass to cross the A725 Expressway, which is often unlit and prone to flooding.

Local parents are gathering to walk the rest of the suggested safe route.

It’s clear parents are very concerned that there is no safe walking route and no public buses as an alternative. South Lanarkshire Council say the route should be walked with an adult, which would mean parents walking nearly 60 miles a week to get their kids to and from school!

In order to highlight this, a group of parents are meeting outside the Hillhouse and Earnock Community Centre, 122 Hillhouse Road, Hamilton, ML3 9TX at 1pm this Saturday, 24th February to walk the rest of the suggested safe route.

All welcome to join.
