Our Supporters Group earlier this evening were advised of a fire in the Public Park.
With several messages and photos, we can now unfortunately report that the swings and play equipment in Stonefield Public Park, Low Blantyre were deliberately set on fire this evening, Thursday 16th May 2024.
Emergency services, including police were quickly on the scene and promptly dealt with the incident, the fire now out and made safe. As we followed the incident earlier in real time by messenger, its clear how quickly authorities acted tonight, especially police, so thanks for their diligence. Nearby residents reported seeing around 3 youths just prior to the fire.
The extent of the damage is not yet known.
It’s truly shocking anybody in Blantyre could be SO stupid to set fire to children’s play equipment and in a public park with so many large trees nearby. It’s happening all too regularly these days, so hopefully those responsible are caught and swiftly dealt with. Disgusted.
This is what happens when u can’t punish the kids anymore. No discipline at all. They can do things like this and know that there’s no consequences so why should they stop doing it?! I’m not saying they get a kicking, it never done us any harm getting a smacked hand or smacked backside back in the day.
