New LIDL construction underway

A good start has been made this last fortnight on the construction of the new LIDL supermarket store in Blantyre, Lanarkshire.

Forum Contracts, the main contractors have been digging foundations and starting to install underground drainage pipes and manholes at the retail site at the corner of Whistleberry Road and Glasgow Road, making good progress in the fine weather. This follows the recent demolition of the old LIDL store earlier this year.

A new state of the art store, with frontage on to Glasgow Road is being built on roughly the same footprint, with the new slightly larger store promising wide aisles, sustainability features like EV chargers and solar panels, its own bakery department, a better layout and altogether enhanced customer experience.

The completed store is expected to open in early 2025.
