Election – Labour Landslide

Following a seismic 24 hours, congratulations go out to the winning election candidates, who for this area and surrounding areas, are each from the Labour Party.

It was a real ‘mixed bag outcome’ for all the parties. The UK wide swing towards Labour votes was a night of significant losses in Scotland for both the SNP and the Tories, a monumental success for Labour in England, a notable rise for Reform and Liberal Democrats with surging support for Nationalism in Wales and Northern Ireland.

For Scotland, after 56 declarations, Labour has won 37; the SNP nine; Liberal Democrats five and Conservatives five with 1 declaration in the Highlands still be made due to a recount. As with many other areas of the UK, Glasgow and the Central Belt turned red as voters put their faith in the Labour Party to deliver change.

Even closer to home…..the local successes were:

Joani Reid (Scottish Labour Party) has been elected to serve in the United Kingdom Parliament as the member for the East Kilbride and Strathaven constituency.

Imogen Walker (Scottish Labour Party) has been elected to serve in the United Kingdom Parliament as the member for the Hamilton and Clyde Valley constituency.

and Michael Shanks (Scottish Labour Party) has been elected to retain his MP position in the United Kingdom Parliament as the member for the Rutherglen constituency.

Voter turnout in these 3 constituencies was between 56% and 61%, with between 39% – 44% of the electorate choosing not to vote.

Well done also to all parties and those individuals who were unsuccessful. Their dedication, hard work and commitment during their election campaigns was commendable.
