David Livingstone Birthplace has today reported pockets of vandalism at their public grounds, just off Station Road, Blantyre.
You’ve got to wonder what stupidity infests the minds of people who knowingly vandalise things, but this was the scene, as staff taped off the area.
On a statement online, a spokesperson for David Livingstone Birthplace said, “Weโre feeling disheartened today. Unfortunately, weโve experienced vandalism on the site, and itโs quite serious as it poses a health and safety risk for small children. Our beautiful viewing platform and fence have been badly damaged.”

Staff are appealing if anybody can help, perhaps with spare wood slats and would be grateful for donations. These areas to serve all the community were actually built through the kindness of a grant last year, and so it’s terrible to see it being ripped out by brainless idiots.
This wasn’t just the extent of the damage. The nature gazebo has also been damaged, forcing staff to prioritise.
