High Blantyre Primary Reading Award

High Blantyre Primary were recently delighted to have been awarded with their Silver Reading Schools Award from the Scottish Book Trust.

Assessors commented that ‘The huge amount of work and dedication you have put into the programme really shone through your application – what an incredible reading environment for your learners, staff and families, and what excellent support and enthusiasm for reading for pleasure there is in place across your whole school community!’

Work for the Silver Award included the school revamping and updating their infant library, creating new reading snugs throughout the school, classes making large book posters to decorate the dining room plus fabulous World Book Day and Book Week Scotland celebrations.

The award was achieved through great team and partnership working involving the Reading Pupil Voice Group, all pupils, staff, parents and the wider community too. The fabulous Parent Council and parents went above and beyond to supply books to fill the new library and class libraries too. The local community have also donated books and resources for school libraries and the Community Payback scheme is also constructing outside reading dens to promote reading outside.

Now the school are working on achieving their gold award which will include updating the senior library and the Reading Ambassadors making a video to apply for a grant to purchase graphic novels for the new senior library.

Congratulations to everybody involved!
