We’ve been out from Blantyre over to Larkhall and back late this morning, Saturday 23rd November and have a wee update on the roads. Snowfall has turned to rain and there’s a thaw on. Seriously slushy roads and pavements are making driving (and walking) hazardous.
Both the EK Expressway and M74 are passable, with drivers slowing down given the conditions. Flooding and spray are the issues, rather than ice or snow and we’ve seen several SLC ploughs and gritters out and about.
Localised flooding at roundabouts and verges is causing spray on to opposing roads and pavements as storm water drains struggle to cope.
In Calderwood, East Kilbride a single decker and double decker bus has slipped into a position making it difficult for vehicles to pass. Housing estates in and around Blantyre are still slushy. All in all, it’s best not to drive today if at all possible.
Thankfully , icing over tonight looks unlikely.
Temperatures are expected to quickly rise later today and could be in double digits by evening! This has the potential for a foggy evening and early start tomorrow.
How’s the roads where you are this afternoon?
