Boost for Glasgow Area

Glasgow is no longer the area in Britain with the lowest male life expectancy.

Since records began in 2001, the city consistently reported the lowest figures in every estimate, but this year, Blackpool in England has taken its place. According to recent data, a baby boy born in Glasgow between 2021 and 2023 is expected to live an average of 73.6 years, compared to 73.1 years for a boy born in Blackpool.

Despite this shift, Glasgow remains the area with the lowest life expectancy for women. The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) also show that six of the ten areas with the lowest male life expectancy are still in Scotland.
