Romany Starrs, a well-known local designer, has opened a jewellery store in the heart of East Kilbride’s historic Village, a retail destination renowned for its independent boutiques.
Located at 27a Montgomery Street, the shop serves as both a retail space and a workshop, where Romany will create her handcrafted jewellery in full view of customers.
“I’ve spent the last five years searching for the ideal location,” said Romany. “I wanted a boutique atmosphere in a place that felt right for the brand, and I’ve finally found that here in East Kilbride Village. There are few Scottish fine jewellers, especially those who design, craft, and set their own stones. I’m proud to be doing all of that here in Scotland. I want people to think of me when they’re searching for something truly exceptional and beautifully made.”
She added, “I want visitors to feel cared for, to relax, and enjoy the space with a glass of champagne or coffee in hand.”
A standout feature of the boutique is its in-house workshop, visible through glass walls, allowing clients to witness the craftsmanship up close.
“Seeing the process in action helps build trust with customers,” Romany explained. “They love watching the tools and techniques we use—it’s a bit like theatre.”
In addition to being a place for bespoke commissions, the boutique will showcase Romany Starrs’ ready-to-wear contemporary fine jewellery collections, all in one space.
With over 20 years of experience in jewellery making, Romany draws inspiration from architecture, particularly the Bauhaus and Brutalist movements. “I want people to remember the boutique as much as the jewellery itself and the experience they have while visiting,” she said.
