There’s been some chat online the last fortnight about full bins and ensuring your wheelie bin lids can close fully before the refuse collectors empty them.
We’ve found out a little more this week. The union was in having discussions with SLC management on Monday 16th December. It is reported that the management’s stance is rightly for health and safety of their employees first and foremost and have said all their employees should be following H&S procedure and tagging overflowing bins and leaving excess waste.
This is especially important next week when refuse can be more than usual at Christmas time. A reminder therefore goes out to ensure your wheelie bins can fully and properly close, else you run the risk of them being left.
An employee told Blantyre Telegraph, “Additionally, it should be known this is a senior management decision, not the folks on the lorries. We don’t want to be tagging bins but we have to follow the rules or face possible discipline.”
