Seems to be a lot of local people not well this week…so worth a reminder. NHS Lanarkshire is urging people to avoid visiting hospitals if they show any signs of particular illness, such as a cold, flu, diarrhoea, or vomiting.
Lesley Thomson, Nurse Director, emphasised the importance of this measure, stating:
“We understand how much patients value visits from family and friends. However, anyone feeling unwell or experiencing symptoms like diarrhoea or vomiting must be symptom-free for at least 48 hours before visiting. This is crucial to protect your loved ones and other patients, who are already vulnerable, from exposure to additional viruses that could worsen their condition.”
“If you’re unwell, it’s best to stay at home. You can always phone or video call your loved ones and visit once you’ve fully recovered.”
She also reminded those who are well enough to visit to help prevent the spread of infections by washing their hands with soap and water when entering and leaving hospital wards, instead of relying solely on hand sanitiser.
