Remembering Brian Murphy: Icon of 70s British Comedy

We were sad to hear about this today. Brian Murphy, the comedy actor best known for his roles in the 1970s British sitcoms Man About the House and George and Mildred, has died at the age of 92.

Murphy passed away at his home in Kent on Sunday morning. In the early years of his career, he worked closely with renowned theatre director Joan Littlewood.

Many people will have fond memories of watching the shows he acted in. In later years, he made appearances in Holby CityThe Catherine Tate ShowBenidorm, and Last of the Summer Wine.

Paying tribute to Murphy’s “talent and humanity,” his friend and agent Thomas Bowington described him as a “joyful and profoundly good-hearted man.”
