North Lanarkshire Council has followed South Lanarkshire Council and will be introducing an annual charge of £40 to dispose of garden waste from June 1.
For North Lanarkshire residents who want to continue using the kerbside garden waste service must purchase a permit for each brown bin containing garden waste.
Here in South Lanarkshire, the cost is a little more expensive at £45 per permit from 1st April.

I think it is an absolute disgrace that I will be charged for garden waste I do all I can to keep the street and my garden tidy. I live opposite Strathclyde Park and the leaves that come off the tress is unbelievable I am always sweeping them up, they completely cover my drive I am unable to open my gate. Why should I have to pay for something that isn’t my fault.
Thats a good point Kim. We’re affected by council trees also, an annual chore or our own to tidy up each Autumn.
I just wonder how many times authorities can go to the same well for funds.
Along with this “tax”, there is an impending high increase in local taxes, another impending increase on TV licence and probably more ways to get revenues being discussed.
The poverty level has crept up year over year, inflation and cost of living has hit hard.
How long can the 2 million private sector tax payers sustain the remaining 3.5 million Scots? Of course the public sector 600,000 employees pay taxes too but since their wages are partially paid by private sector employees, that is just another tax on them!
70+ years ago, Blantyre was officially a deprived are. Here we are and Blantyre is STILL a deprived area.
Scottish Govt. has £3.5 BILLION from UK treasury. How will it all be used?
