Lidl Donates £1,000 to Blantyre Victoria Football Team

Blantyre Victoria 2013 Whites Football Team has received a £1,000 donation from Lidl. The funding will go towards essential all-weather training wear, fitness equipment, and footballs, helping young players stay active and develop their skills.

The donation is part of Lidl’s ongoing commitment to supporting local communities and promoting children’s health and wellbeing across Scotland.

The donation follows the opening of Lidl’s brand-new Blantyre store on Thursday 13th February, located on Whistleberry Road. Built on the same site as the original store, which served the community for almost 28 years, the new multi-million-pound investment offers an upgraded shopping experience and has created 10 new jobs, in addition to retaining existing colleagues – all of whom receive one of the highest rates of pay in the sector.

To mark the store’s opening, the Blantyre Victoria 2013 Whites were invited as special guests, enjoying a first look inside and sampling Lidl’s much-loved in-store bakery.

Ross Jackson, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, said: “At Lidl, we’re dedicated to making a positive impact in the communities we serve. Local youth sports teams play a vital role in bringing young people together, encouraging fitness, and building confidence. The dedication of Blantyre Victoria’s coaches and volunteers is truly inspiring, and we’re proud to support their work with this contribution.”

Angela McMillan, Chairperson of Blantyre Victoria Youth Football Team, expressed her gratitude: “We’re incredibly thankful for Lidl’s support. This donation will make a real difference, providing our young players with the training wear and equipment they need to develop their skills and enjoy the game.”
