Blantyre’s Litter Problem: A Call to Action

How disappointing it is to see littering happening along Bardykes Road in Blantyre SO soon after a big clean up.

Litter had been cleared during the recent road closure, but today, more was appearing. A Blantyre Telegraph reader who had just moved to Blantyre picked up bags today and told us , “I have brought it home and will ask the council to take it. Don’t know what the deal is with that spot, and the rubbish in South Lanarkshire generally. I recently moved here and as a Scot I’m heartbroken,  ashamed and depressed to feel at times like I’m living in a landfill site. It makes me wish I hadn’t moved here tbh. Council needs to educate and enforce”

We’d hate to think of anybody moving to Blantyre and regretting it, so have written privately back to this reader about all the volunteering and amazing things that happen to make Blantyre beautiful. Please do report in fly tipping or littering. With waste collection rules and charges recently changing, we think this could be a problem on the rise.
