Some South Lanarkshire Schools Abandon ‘X’ for Safer Communication

With South Lanarkshire Council stepping away from using ‘x’ as a social media platform due to the amount of perceived misinformation and more extreme content being permitted, some associated organisations, schools and nurseries in Lanarkshire are now also doing the same.

X is owned by controversial billionaire Elon Musk and has seen advertisers leave in droves in the previous year due to algorithms prioritising political viewpoints, its lack of fact checking and suitability. Safe to say, it’s certainly different from the previous ‘Twitter’ format.

High Blantyre Primary School are the latest to announce their intention to move away from using ‘X’ as a means of communication, posting the following statement online, “We are currently looking to move to another social media platform to communicate with our parents/carers. To keep everyone up to date with school business, we will continue to use X as a closed page, until we have another suitable method of communication.”
