Celebrating the New Blantyre Community Hub Opening

There were celebrations all round yesterday at Larkfield, Blantyre when Blantyre Community Trust unveiled the fantastic new community hub.

Following a community asset transfer of the former Larkfield Hall, Blantyre, BSA and Blantyre Community Trust have transformed the building with an extensive renovation inside and out, creating a fit for purpose asset for the community.

No longer the Larkfield Hall, the building is now Blantyre Community Trust Hub and had an official opening yesterday, Thursday 13th March 2025.

BSA spokesperson Jimmy Whelan told Blantyre Telegraph, “Phase 1 of our ambitious four-phase plan marks a significant milestone—the transformation of a neglected and deteriorated SLC hall into a vibrant, modern Community Hub.”

“This achievement is a testament to the dedication and perseverance of a committed group of individual volunteers and a lot of capital investment determined to restore the space for the benefit of the Blantyre community.”

Jimmy added, “After a long and arduous journey, from securing the Community Asset Transfer (CAT) from the council to completing the extensive refurbishment, we are proud to see our vision come to life. With this major step accomplished, we now set our sights on the next exciting phases of our plan.”

At a time when other halls are at risk, this building has been saved! It looks amazing, as can be seen in these photos shared by Jim Donnelly.
